In order to do well on the Unit 2 Assessment on Thursday, students should know the causes, effects and locations of the following environmental issues: 1. Acid rain 2. Air pollution (smog) 3. Nuclear disaster 4. Deforestation 5. Oil pollution 6. Water pollution 7. Extraction of natural resources Please go over the Power Points (links below) and review each environmental issue! Students will be completing review activities in class and will have a study guide to review at home as well. The answers to the study guide are available below. Please use the answers as a resource and get the information into your BRAIN!

Homework for the next 2 weeks! This song focuses on all of the environmental issues we've been learning in this unit. Please memorize the lyrics! Hook: Acid rain up in Germany
(bout to blow up) Polluting lakes and killing all the trees (man that’s messed up) Factories they smoke too much Consumer goods we can’t get enough Riding in a car or on a bus Got to stop the pollution it’s a MUST (awwww) Poll-u-tion yea you know we got too much (x4) Verse 1: Acid rain in Germany is a real big problem can’t you see It’s caused by smoke from factories and people driving in the streets Chem-i-cals, they blow-oh Into the air you know-oh Acid rain then flow-ohs Down to the earth, Oh-no-oh! They need new types of en-er-gy Like wind and solar ‘cause it’s clean Gotta go green if you know what I mean Build more efficient industries Canada also has acid rain too (pause) high levels of SO2 Property can be damaged too Like landmarks, art and statues ~Back to the Hook~ Verse 2: Don’t forget Chernobyl Radiation causing tumors A nuclear reactor at the power plant exploded We’re not done with Eu-rope The UK air’s poll-u-ted Vehicle emissions can cause asthma and pneumonia They be coughing so much (cough, cough) Nose and eyes be burning From all the car exhaust and factory pollution The air quality’s improving Fossil fuels re-duc-ing Cleaner coals, electricity the UK now is using ~Back to the Hook~ Verse 3: (Whoop!) Probably ‘bout to cut another tree down (tree down) Brazil do it too much (Whooop!) Tell me how we gone breathe (gone breathe) when we ain’t got no trees?! And I don’t even live in Brazil but I still gotta breathe though (breathe though) 20 percent of world’s oxygen comes from the Amazon, yo! De-fores-tation, caused by farming and cattle ranching Clearing all the trees to grow soybeans and for logging (pause) Man we need oil too much oil spills mess the environment up Venezuela building their economy up Pollution there is WAY TOO MUCH! ~Back to the Hook~ The three major environmental issues we covered last week were: acid rain in Germany, air pollution in the United Kingdom, and nuclear disaster in Chernobyl. After taking notes in a 3-section foldable, students had a choice assignment to demonstrate their understanding of these issues: 1. Environmental T-shirt 2.Danger Sign 3. Double Bubble thinking map With your child, discuss the causes (what made it happen?) and effects (what does it do to humans/the environment?) of acid rain, air pollution and the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl.
